| YRG CARE
receives a number of requests from medical personnel for programmes
and training on the management of HIV Disease. In response
to these requests, the YRG CARE medical team under Dr Suniti
Solomon and Dr N Kumarasamy have developed a training programme
for doctors and nurses which includes both theoretical discussions
and on-hands training through formal lectures and informal
discussions at the VHS-YRG CARE Medical Center, Taramani,
Chennai. (give address) |

Continuous Medical Education programmes are also offered to
groups of 50 and above for general physicians and medical
professionals from different areas of specialization especially
for obstetrics, gynecologists. Nurses and students of nursing
receive training on nursing care for people with HIV disease
and counselling and psychosocial programmes. In addition,
for other allied medical staff like Class III and IV workers,
programmes are conducted on general information on HIV/AIDS
followed by a course on infection control and waste management.
Under a World AIDS Foundation Grant (2001), a number of physicians,
nurses, paramedics and allied health care workers in South
India received training on HIV/AIDS and management of HIV
Disease, prevention and post exposure prophylaxis and psychosocial
support.
The following sessions are conducted during the CME programme.
These sessions are tailored made according to the need of
the participants. A World AIDS Foundation grant (2000-2001)
enabled a number of such training programmes and visiting
alumni to the center from South India.

importance of informed consent and ethics
Nursing care with specific specialisation in HIV-related illnesses
and infections is an area where opportunities for training
or education are hardly available. YRG CARE offers a
CNE programme designed to meet the large need for trained
nurses in this area. |
