YRG CARE conducts leading edge research
on social and biomedical aspects of HIV and AIDS. In association
with the National Institute of Mental Health, USA and the
Johns Hopkins University, YRG CARE is one of the six sites
to implement a behaviour change model in low-income venues
using community popular leaders to reduce the transmission
of HIV and STDs.
Similarly, YRG CARE is one of the twenty-six sites of the
HIV Prevention Trial Units (HPTU), in association with the
Brown University. Our ongoing collaboration with the Tufts-Brown
Fogarty program has significantly increased our capacity to
undertake research work. YRG CARE formed an independent review
committee (Institutional
Review Board) to oversee human subject safety in all our
research studies. We also appointed a full-time IRB coordinator
to facilitate and strengthen this process. Objective
-
To advance the understanding, diagnosis, management
and prevention of HIV infection and related diseases
-
To improve the social and psychological well-being
and quality of life of a person living with or affected
by the infection in a resource poor setting
