Pediatric HIV Program

Approximately 300 children are registered with YRG CARE. We provide anti-retroviral therapy (ART), that is, medication to fight HIV infection, and monitor the children’s health until they have turned 18. These services are provided free for at least one year for the children registered with us.

Camp Rainbow Chennai 2016

The year 2016 marked Camp Rainbow Chennai’s sixth season serving Children Living with HIV through camp programming. The camp took place between May 8 and 13, 2016 and served 87 campers between the ages of 9-17 who came from from seven districts in Tamilnadu.

The camp environment fostered the values of safety, love, and respect, while campers participated in daily activities that included arts & crafts, team building, life skills, and beach activities. Each night after dinner there were evening programs that included Campfire, Carnival, Stage Night, and Awards Night. With this variety of programmes and an overall focus on child-centeredness, empowerment, learning and fun, all the kids were provided with a range of experiences they will not easily forget.

The flow of the week was specifically designed to optimize the campers’ experience while encouraging a sense of community within each y group. All this would not have been possible but for the 33 volunteers who were trained this year to create the spirit of camp for children. Each one of them brought eagerness, commitment, and an authentic skill to their role, and together the volunteers and the campers formed a strong team.
