Dr. T. R. Dinesha

M.Sc., Ph.D.
Assistant Professor

Dr T. R. Dinesha currently serves as Assistant Professor in the Division of Immunology of the Y.R. Gaitonde Centre for AIDS Research and Education (YRG CARE), Chennai. He did his Master’s degree in Biomedical Genetics from the University of Madras, securing the University first rank. He completed his doctorate (Ph.D.) in Medical Microbiology with a concentration in HIV drug resistance from YRG CARE. He is a motivated researcher and has been involved in HIV & HBV/HCV research for about 10 years. His key research areas include studying HIV Drug resistance, understanding the immunological basis of an infectious disease, microbiome profiling and so on. In the past several years, Dr Dinesha has worked on different projects such as (i) HIV Drug Resistance Monitoring in Chennai, India, (ii) Validation of cost-effective pooling HBV DNA PCR for detecting occult HBV among HIV-1 drug naïve individuals in southern India (iii) Studying immunological profile of individuals with early HIV infection. His Ph.D. research investigated the compartmentalisation of HIV and RT DRM pattern in plasma and PBMC compartment of ART naïve, ART failure participants. His work mainly focussed on identifying the utility of PBMC DNA DRM testing in resource limited settings. During his Ph.D., he also developed an ultra-sensitive allele specific PCR to detect HIV-1 subtype C RT DRMs. Recently, Dr Dinesha has been involved in studying the mucosal immunology of HIV-1 exposed seronegatives.
