Dr Rifa Tazyeem Khan

Clinical Epidemiologist
Dr Khan has over nine years’ experience as a study physician for Phase-III and IV clinical trials. A graduate from Sri Ramachandra Medical University in 2013, she trained as a house surgeon, at St. John’s Medical College and Hospital, Bengaluru and in 2014, joined SJRI, Division of Clinical Trials, Dept of Endocrinology, as a Research Medical Officer. In 2017, she completed her M.Sc. Public Health for Development, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine wherein she focused on epidemiology and complex public health interventions.
In 2017, she served as the point of contact for 16 integrated care centers (ICCs), set up in collaboration with Johns Hopkins University. Since 2019, she has served as a community health physician with a focus on but not limited to infectious diseases. With telemedicine, she now offers oral PrEP teleconsultations to key populations. She led the digitisation of health records and continues to monitor the research databases and the clinical health information system. She led the implementation of the ‘Well Women Clinic’ and preventive paediatric cardiology initiative. In 2020-21, she led a city-wide seroepidemiological surveillance of over 6,000 participants to measure the prevalence and longevity of immune response among communities with differential susceptibility to SARS CoV-2 and led a whitepaper on optimal national testing strategy for fair and equitable testing for SARS CoV-2.
Dr Khan is the clinical research site coordinator for YRGCARE, now a protocol-specific site under the Johns Hopkins Clinical Trials Unit. She is routinely involved in mentoring budding researchers from diverse backgrounds.
