Uma Maheswari, a dedicated Lead Research Nurse, has devoted 16 years of her career to YRGCARE, Chennai. She has a General Nursing Diploma from Rotary School of Nursing and a Post Basic B.Sc. in Nursing from P.P.G College of Nursing in 2019.
As a Research Nurse and Study Coordinator, she has played a crucial role in several impactful studies, including the AIDS Clinical Trials Group and pharmaceutical- sponsored trials, safety and efficacy of different treatment antiretroviral regimens. She's also part of the study for detecting anti-HIV 1/2 in human blood specimens, the National HIV Cohort Program focused on HIV resistance and progression in Indian children and adults, the Early HIV Infection cohort (EHI) study, assessing immunobiological and viral characteristics and the impact of early treatment initiation on disease progression and contributes to the clinical study aimed at understanding disease dynamics in HIV management, and actively participates in the study on the Hepatitis B virus vaccine response among HIV-1 infected individuals and the virus discovery and sequencing at Indian Sentinel Site.
One of her remarkable contributions is to a tuberculosis clinical trial assessing the safety and immunogenicity of candidate tuberculosis vaccine in HIV-positive adults from a TB-endemic region.
More recently, Uma Maheswari contributed to the seroepidemiological surveillance of COVID immune responses in Chennai and an NIH-sponsored study, that evaluates predictors of resistance emergence in multidrug-resistant tuberculosis patients on treatment.
